HC Deb 21 November 1984 vol 68 c179W
Mr. Terry Davis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether there are any restrictions on the food which may be taken by approved visitors to men who are on remand at Her Majesty 's prison, Winson Green, and have been provisionally put in category A.

Mr. Mellor

Food will be accepted provided that it is not in need of preparation and where it requires early consumption it is limited to 24 hours supply. Nonperishable food will be accepted in a reasonable quantity. Food and drink in potentially dangerous containers will not be accepted unless it can be conveniently removed from the container before issue. The governor has discretion to refuse food which is manifestly unsuitable or in unreasonable quantities. Additionally, the privilege of receiving food and drink may be withdrawn if it is abused.

These restrictions apply to all unconvicted prisoners including those placed provisionally in category A.
