HC Deb 21 November 1984 vol 68 c161W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will introduce legislation to extend the availability of compensation to individual households for environmental damage caused by road construction to include any road where any part of the funding thereof emanates from his Department; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

Compensation under the Land Compensation Act 1973 for depreciation in the value of dwellings by noise, vibration, smell, fumes and other physical factors caused by the use of a new or altered road may be claimed from and is payable by the highway authority which constructed the road or carried out alterations, irrespective of the source of the funds for the works.
