HC Deb 20 November 1984 vol 68 c133W
20. Mr. Park

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps the Government are pursuing to encourage greater industrial democracy in British industry.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Government are convinced of the benefits to employers and employees alike of good employee involvement practices and take every suitable opportunity to encourage the voluntary adoption and development of appropriate arrangements.

The Government hope that section 1 of the Employment Act 1982, which requires companies with more than 250 employees to include in their annual directors' report a statement of their employee involvement arrangements, will give a stimulus by ensuring that the matter is considered at board level, thus encouraging companies to review, and, where appropriate, improve their existing practice.
