§ Mr. Litherlandasked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will list, for each of those faults (a) to (e) specified in his Department's letter of 5 October 1983, those authorities which have undertaken, are undertaking or are planning to undertake remedial works on Bison wall frame buildings with respect to each fault specified;
(2) if he will list those authorities which have appraised or are appraising their Bison wall frame dwellings for possible faults (a) in the connection between wall and floor panels and in the restraint of load-bearing walls, (b) in parapet fixing, (c) in the ties between inner and outer leaves of external cladding panels and (d) with spalling concrete of loose aggregate finishes.

It is primarily for housing authorities themselves to decide on the scope of appraisals and remedial works in connection with the five listed—or any other—faults in their Bison dwellings. However, 149W replies to the 5 October 1983 letter and to a further departmental letter of 25 July 1984 indicate that the authorities listed as follows have carried out or are undertaking appraisals of their Bison blocks, and a number have carried out or are arranging to carry out the remedial works they consider necessary. These are principally related to fault (c), deficiencies in ties between the inner and outer leaves of external wall panels.
