asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many persons in Scotland during the financial years 1982–83 and 1983–84 received (a) rent rebates and (b) rates rebates.

Rent rebates and most rates rebates have been since 1 April 1983 a part of the housing benefit system which is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services. I have asked him to write to the hon. Member. The amounts of rates rebates on accommodation for disabled persons and on all property in enterprise zones, both of which remain my responsibility, are shown below, but no figures for the number of persons, households or premises are held centrally.
