HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 c33W
Mr. Weetch

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether it remains the policy of the Government to give overriding importance to areas that have been designated as areas of outstanding natural beauty; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Government's policy towards areas of outstanding natural beauty was set out in a detailed statement by my right hon. Friend the former Secretary of State on 29 July 1982 at column707–10. That remains our position.

Mr. Weetch

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the existing areas of outstanding natural beauty, designated by the Countryside Commission, in East Anglia.

Mr. Waldegrave

The areas are:

  • Norfolk coast, confirmed in 1968.
  • Suffolk coast and Heaths, confirmed in 1970.
  • Dedham Vale, confirmed in 1970.
  • Dedham Vale extension, confirmed in 1978.
