asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he intends to extend value added tax to any items currently zero rated during the current parliamentary Session; and if he will make a statement.

Although the Government are committed to a shift in the burden of taxation from taxes on earnings to taxes on spending, we have no set views at present on how this might best be done.
