asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proposals he has for collecting the revenue that is lost to the Exchequer as a result of the growth of the black economy.

By the end of this tax year we will have increased the number of Inland Revenue staff on investigation work by almost 700 since we came to power in 1979. We plan to deploy a further 1,000 by April 1988.
