§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to assist conservation areas where there is overwhelming opposition to further development and where the local authority cannot afford to pay compensation on refusal of planning permission.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneI refer to the answer given to my hon. Friend on 31 October.
§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has any evidence that conservation areas are better protected than other areas when local authorities consider planning applications under the 10 per cent. rule.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneI have no reason to believe that local planning authorities fail to take material considerations into account when dealing with planning applications affecting conservation areas, whether there is a liability to pay compensation following refusal or not.
