asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his recent meeting with the other Foreign Ministers of the Western European Union.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

I have nothing to add to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Member for Mid-Sussex (Mr. Renton) on 12 November to my hon. Friend the Member for Welwyn Hatfield (Mr. Murphy).

46. Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has any reservations in regard to the current proposals for reactivation of the Western European Union or in regard to the suggested establishment of a European Defence Community.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

I have no reservations in regard to the decision to make better use of Western European Union, and I refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Welwyn Hatfield (Mr. Murphy) on 12 November by my hon. Friend the Member for Mid-Sussex (Mr. Renton).

I am not aware of any proposals for a European Defence Community.
