HC Deb 14 November 1984 vol 67 cc248-9W
19. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his proposals to withdraw responsibility for South Georgia from the Falkland Islands Government.

Mr. Renton

We intend to promulgate a new Constitution for the Falkland Islands next year. As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister has made clear to the House, South Georgia (and the South Sandwich Islands) are a separate Dependent Territory. They have been administered from Port Stanley purely as a matter of convenience; future constitutional and administrative arrangements for them are under consideration.
