asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many of those released on bail pending the hearing of an appeal under the Immigration Act 1971 during 1983 then absconded;

(2) how many of those detained as the subject of a deportation order and then granted temporary release during 1983 then absconded.

Of the 7,292 persons who were given temporary admission to the United Kingdom at ports of entry in 1983, 137 absconded.
