HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 c202W
Mr. Neil Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the total civil defence budget for 1984–85 is expected to be; how much of this will be grant-aid to local authorities; and what would be the additional costs of making all local authority emergency planning staff salaries 100 per cent. grant-aided for that year.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The total civil defence budget included in the Supply Estimates for 1984–85 is £69.7 million. Of this, £11.1 million is for civil defence grant to local authorities. In these Estimates, provision for local authority planning staff was approximately £5.8 million. The additional cost of making provision for the salaries of all local authority emergency planning staff (currently grant-aided at 75 per cent.) eligible for grant at the rate of 100 per cent. would be about £1.9 million.
