HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 c85W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will consider including crossbows, powerful catapults and other potentially dangerous toys in the review of regulations on framing new safety guidelines; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Fletcher

Certainly. That part of British Standard BS 5665, Safety of Toys, which sets requirements for toy guns also covers other projectile toys such as crossbows, pea-shooters and darts. There is a possible grey area between projectile toys and sporting equipment. My officials, in conjunction with other Departments as necessary, are reviewing all aspects of current legal requirements and published standards for these products and will seek improvements where appropriate.
