HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 c107W
40. Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he expects to introduce a Bill on the substitution of rail by bus services in the present Session of Parliament.

50. Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he plans to introduce bus substitution for rail services in England.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has any plans to encourage the substitution of buses for certain rail lines.

Mr. David Mitchell

The House will be invited to approve enabling legislation this Session. Under it, when British Rail sought consent from the Secretary of State to the withdrawal of a railway service, it would be able to propose substitute bus services.
