HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 c76W
83. Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he is satisfied with the arrangements he has made with the Government of the Falkland Islands concerning purchase of land by Falkland Islanders.

Mr. Raison

Yes.

Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what inquiries were made into damage in the road between the airport and Port Stanley in the Falklands; what was the result of those inquiries; what disciplinary action was taken against those involved; what action is now proposed to repair the damage; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Raison

The state of the Port Stanley airport road has been regularly monitored by engineering advisers, and there has also been investigations by the Royal Engineers and the Property Services Agency. This has shown that the Falklands climate and the nature of the usage of the road have led to unusually rapid deterioration, but I am advised that it is unlikely that contractual liability for the damge could be shown. Immediate repair work is being undertaken by the Royal Engineers.
