asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of revenue raised from taxes and duties on alcoholic drinks in the fiscal year 1983–84.

Net receipts of excise duty on alcoholic drinks in 1983–84 were £4,075 million. It is estimated that VAT on alcoholic drinks yielded about £1,750 million.
