HC Deb 09 November 1984 vol 67 cc13-4W
Mr. Maclennan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what additional resources he has made available to the Scottish ambulance service to meet the increased demand brought about by the expansion of day care services.

Mr. John MacKay

It is for the Common Services Agency for the Scottish Health Service to decide on the disposition of the resources made available to it for the ambulance service. Funds provided for the recurrent expenditure of the Scottish ambulance service doubled from £11.3 million in 1978–79 to £22.6 million (provisional) in 1983–84: expenditure for the current financial year is estimated to be about £23.6 million. I am aware that the Scottish ambulance service gives a high priority to the needs of day hospitals when considering the use to be made of development funds.
