§ Mr. FletcherMy right hon. Friend has no plans to change the current arrangements for support to information technology centres from my Department. A total of 175 ITeCs will receive pump-priming grants totalling £75,000 over their first three years from the Department.
§ Mr. Sheermanasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the current level of support to information technology centres; how this has changed over the last three years; and what further changes are projected in the level of support.
§ Mr. FletcherThe Department provides a pump-priming grant of £75,000 to each ITeC over its first three years. Initially, the Department had agreed to provide pump-priming grants of £55,000 per ITeC over their first two years, but in 1983 the Department agreed a further third year's grant of £20,000 to facilitate open access. No further changes are projected in the level of DTI support for ITeCs.

§ Mr. FletcherThe following list contains a total of 167 ITeCs which have been approved for funding by the Department to date. Eight ITeCs have already received the full DTI grant of £75,000, 149 are currently receiving that grant, and a further 10 will be receiving DTI grants over the next three years. In addition, a further eight ITeC locations have yet to be approved for departmental funding to bring the total number to 175. Indicated on the list is the number of approved training places for those centres. I understand that the current number of trainees in place is available from the Department of Employment.
