HC Deb 09 November 1984 vol 67 c42W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what reply he has sent to Mr. Colin Smith, of the Independent Falklands Farmers, about their petition against further agreements being signed by the Coalite Company.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

No such petition has been received.

Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his discussions with Lord Shackleton and Mr. Michael Gregory, lawyer of the Country landowners' Association, about the Falkland Islands Company leasing policy.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

No such discussions have been held. This is primarily a matter for the Falkland Islands Company and the Falkland Islands Government.

Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will invite Mr. Eric Varley, chairman of Coalite, to discuss Coalite's policy towards land reform in the Falklands.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

I have no plans at present to do so, although we are naturally in regular contact with Coalite and the Falkland Islands Company about matters concerning the Falkland Islands. Coalite's policy towards land reform in the Falklands is, however, primarily a matter for Coalite and the Falkland Islands Government.
