HC Deb 25 May 1984 vol 60 c586W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers awarded punishments for disciplinary offences exercised their right of appeal to the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis against the finding or punishment during 1983 or so far in 1984; and how many of such appeals were (a) dismissed, (b) allowed, (c) allowed in part and (d) resulted in a varied punishment.

Mr. Hurd

The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis publishes this information each year in his annual report, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. His report for 1983 is due to be published next month, but, with the commissioner's permission, I can provide the information contained in it. Of the 38 appeals against finding or punishment lodged in 1983, 25 were heard during the year, together with six outstanding at the end of 1982. Of these 15 were dismissed, two were allowed against finding, six were allowed in part and punishment was varied in eight appeals.

The equivalent figures for 1984 so far are not available.
