Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many persons are now employed (a) full-time and (b) part-time at the translation unit of his Department; and how this compares with the position in 1979;

(2) on what basis fees are charged when the translation unit of his Department offers its services to private or commercial bodies; and what was the total recouped from such fees during 1983–84;

(3) approximately how many letters were translated (a) from Welsh into English and (b) from English into Welsh by the translation unit of his Department in 1983;

(4) whether the staff at the translation unit of his Department are required to sign any undertaking concerning the confidentiality of official secrets.
