HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 c534W
Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many school leavers there were in the Banbury travel-to-work area at the end of the summer term 1983; of these, how many went into (a) full-time work, (b) further education, (c) a youth training scheme and (d) unemployment; and of the youth training scheme trainees, how many have so far found full-time employment.

Mr. Peter Morrison

We understand from the Oxfordshire careers service that of 927 young people eligible to leave school in 1983 in the Banbury/Bloxham area, 408 remained in full-time education, 161 entered employment, 324 participated in the youth training scheme and 34 are unemployed. The careers service's records also show that 56 young people have entered employment after participating in the youth training scheme.

Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many school leavers are anticipated at the end of the summer term 1984 in the Banbury travel-to-work area; of these, how many are anticipated to go into (a) full-time work, (b) further education, (c) a youth training scheme and (d) unemployment; and, in relation to the youth training scheme, how many places it is intended to provide in the Banbury travel-to-work area for 1984–85 in (i) mode A and (ii) mode B1 placements.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The available information is as follows. The Oxfordshire careers service estimates that 813 young people in the Banbury/Bloxham area will be eligible to leave school during summer 1984 and that 350 to 400 of them will remain in full-time education. In the Cherwell local authority district, which includes the Banbury travel-to-work area, the Manpower Services Commission will provide 548 mode A places and 30 mode B1 places under the youth training scheme in 1984–85.
