HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 c541W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if the personnel responsibilities of the equal opportunities officers in his Department include the implementation of the ethnic monitoring recommendations contained in the code of the Commission for Racial Equality.

Mr. Alan Clark

As my hon. Friend said in his reply to the hon. and learned Member on 26 April, at column 600, further action in respect of ethnic monitoring in this Department will be considered when the results of the surveys carried out in the north-west and Avon have been evaluated.

Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether the main responsibilities of the equal opportunities officers in his Department in advising managers on policies concerning equality and opportunity and in monitoring the results include advice on how to implement the code of the Commission for Racial Equality.

Mr. Alan Clark

An important part of the work of equal opportunity officers is to give managers practical advice on the effective implementation of equal opportunity policies which take account of the guidance given in the code.

Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to his answer of 14 May, Official Report, column 52, whether he will place in the Library a copy of the additional guidance and instructions issued to all staff by the beginning of April.

Mr. Alan Clark

My hon. Friend will write to the hon. and learned Member.
