§ Mr. Alan ClarkWe are aware of industry's concern that skill shortages may be developing in the electronics sector.
The main objective of the Government's adult training strategy, outlined in the White Paper "Training for Jobs" (Cmnd. 9135), is to secure an adequate supply of people with up-to-date skills to meet the demands of new 541W technology. But it is for industry itself to assume prime responsibility for taking steps to identify and meet its training needs. The Government will support employers' efforts by concentrating their own training provision on the sort of skills likely to be in real demand.
