§ Mr. GummerThis Department will take all practicable steps to avoid compulsory redundancies wherever possible. These include redeploying surplus staff, making full use of the provisions for offering early retirement and careful scrutiny of the existing retirement policy. If these measures fail, redundancies will be tackled in line with the Civil Service's model redundancy agreement.
