HL Deb 23 May 1984 vol 452 c324WA
Lord Morris

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they intend to publish the code of practice about the installation of telecommunication apparatus outside a building referred to in Part 5 of the draft British Telecom licence?

Lord Cockfield

In view of the concern expressed while Schedule 2 to the Telecommunications Bill (the Telecommunications Code) was being considered by Parliament about the need for an effective and straightforward mechanism for protecting the environment, we have decided to abandon the idea of a separate code of practice in favour of more precise conditions in the relevant licences. These new conditions will cover the matters originally envisaged as being suitable to be dealt with in a code of practice, and will reduce the number of documents to which reference will have to be made by those with an interest in the installation of apparatus by telecommunications operators.
