HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 cc426-7W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the commercial interests, including directorships and shareholdings, of the members of his social security review bodies, namely, Mr. Alan Blakemore, Mrs. Rhea Martin, Mr. T. G. Parry Rogers, Mr. Robin Wendt, Mrs. Barbara Shenfield and Mr. Basil Collins.

Dr. Boyson

No, for the reason given in my other reply today to the hon. Member.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the terms and conditions of appointment, including salaries, of the members of the social security review; and whether they have been asked to divest themselves of directorships or shareholdings to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

Dr. Boyson

The members of the reviews have been invited to serve in a personal capacity. Fees and expenses, where appropriate, will be met under standing Treasury rules for such bodies. We are satisfied that there is no incompatibility between members' outside interests and their contribution to the reviews.
