HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 cc437-8W
Mr. Lofthouse

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what discussions he has had with the chairman of the Manpower Services Commission about extending training opportunities to the long-term unemployed under-25s.

Mr. Peter Morrison

My right hon. Friend and I have had discussions with the Chairman of the Manpower Services Commission on a wide range of training matters, including provision of training for the long term unemployed under the age of 25.

The Government's plans for an adult training strategy, announced in the White Paper "Training for Jobs" (Cmnd. 9135), should enable substantially more people, including unemployed people under the age of 25, to benefit from Government funded training programmes.
