HC Deb 22 May 1984 vol 60 cc403-4W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Prime Minister how many civil servants in (a) the Department of the Environment and (b) other Departments, have been engaged on the preparation of the "Survey of Land Use"; and at what cost.

The Prime Minister

No decision has been taken on the establishment of a new national survey of land use. Officials have been examining possible methods and some field trials have been undertaken. Three officials in the Department of the Environment have been engaged on this work for part of their time over the last two years. The cost is estimated at £16,000. In addition £41,000 has been spent on contracts with the Ordnance Survey and consultants engaged to evaluate the field trial results.
