Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on what date he approved the sale of the Forestry Commission holdings at Tore, Ross-shire.

The sale was conducted by the Forestry Commission on behalf of my right hon. Friend. The offer made for the whole property by the highest bidder was accepted by the commission on 25 April 1984, and the successful bidder was informed on that day.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average lengh of time between his Department receiving the bids and recommendation from the Forestry Commission for the sale disposal of a holding and the sale being approved.

The sale of land under Section 39 of the Forestry Act 1967 is carried out on behalf of Ministers by the Forestry Commission. Decisions on the acceptance of offers are reached by the commission on average within two or three working days from the opening of bids.
