Mr. Nicholas Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many prohibition and improvement notices have been served by the Mines and Quarries Inspectorate on quarries since 1975; and on what kind of hazards they were served.

The total number of prohibition and improvement notices served by the Mines and Quarries Inspectorate in quarries since 1 January 1978 is 22 (Figures for 1975–77 are not available). Hazards on which the 22 notices were served are:
