§ Lord Beswickasked Her Majesty's Government:
How many applications from citizens of the Falkland Islands for loans for purchase of land in the Falkland Islands have had their application refused by the Falkland Islands Government and what criteria are applied when making the decision to refuse.
§ Baroness YoungIn the case of land already purchased by the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) and on-sold to individuals all successful purchasers were automatically entitled to an FIG loan; nineteen would-be purchasers were unsuccessful and did not therefore qualify for loans. In the case of sub-divided farm currently being offered for private sale, three would-be purchasers have been offered an FIG loan in principle; three others have been refused. In considering applications for loans, the FIG's selection committee pays due regard to the applicants' experience, capability and potential as farmers and the extent of their working capital.
