HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 c237W
Mr. Hunter

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what is the current charge for registering a co-operative under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act;

(2) what are the current levels of charges for registering a co-operative under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The charge for registering a cooperative society under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act is £290 except where registration is made through a promoting body using a set of model rules in a form already approved by the registrar when the charge is £130. The charges levied under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act are set out in the Industrial and Provident Societies (Amendment of Fees) Regulations 1984 (Statutory Instrument 1984 No. 307).

Mr. Hunter

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to ensure that the registration fee levied by the Registrar of Friendly Societies is kept at a reasonable rate.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The various fees levied by the Registrar of Friendly Societies including registration fee are generally set at the levels required to achieve full recovery of the costs of the services provided. The registration fee will continue to be determined on this basis.
