HC Deb 16 May 1984 vol 60 c198W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much the Medical Research Council provided in grant to the breast cancer study centre at Mount Vernon hospital, Northwood, in 1983–84; and what level of grant is proposed in 1984–85 and 1985–86.

Mr. Brooke

I understand that in 1983–84 the Medical Research Council provided £88,000 in grants to a research programme on the clinical measurement of breast tumours and their response to treatment, which is being carried out at the breast cancer study centre at Mount Vernon hospital. The current level of funding will continue until 31 December 1984; future funding levels will depend on the outcome of the council's consideration of a new grant application which has just been received.
