asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what has been the total value of motor vehicle spares in each of the years since 1974 which have been (a) imported into the United Kingdom and (b) exported from the United Kingdom.

Figures for 1974 are not available on a consistent basis. The definition adopted includes motor vehicle engines, bodies and other parts made largely or wholly of metal; it excludes such items such as batteries, tyres and electrical equipment.
