HC Deb 15 May 1984 vol 60 c97W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the number of prisoners, and their convictions, who were sentenced by the courts in Northern Ireland and are held in prisons in Great Britain.

Mr. Hurd

Information about the location of the sentencing court is not recorded centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will grant the right of repatriation to all prisoners from Northern Ireland to serve their sentences in prisons in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Hurd

No prisoner has the right to choose his location, either within England and Wales or in another jurisdiction. Applications for transfer to Northern Ireland under the Criminal Justice Act 1961 will continue to be considered on their merits, in the light of the Government's policy on such transfers.
