asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the jobcentres on Merseyside and the number of persons employed in each one; and if he plans to close or reduce the staff in any.

The jobcentres in the county of Merseyside and the number of persons employed in each area are: Allerton (6), Bebington (9.5), Belle Vale (8.5), Birkenhead (31), Bootle (20), Crosby (12), Everton (11), Garston (1.5), Hoylake (5), Huyton (13.5), Kirkby (11), Liverpool, Lord Street (22.5), Newton-Le-Willows (4), Norris Green (6), Old Swan (28), Prescot (4), Saint Helens (27.5), Southport (22), Toxteth (10), Wallasey (19), Walton Vale (10), Liverpool Williamson Square (35).

The Manpower Services Commission has recently adopted a broad strategy for the future development of the public employment service, and plans for each part of the country will be formulated over the coming months. It is not therefore possible at this stage to give firm details.
