HC Deb 15 May 1984 vol 60 cc120-7W
Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the amount of derelict land grant made available to individual local authorities for each year since 1979 and where appropriate split these into class A and class B grants.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

Details of total approved expenditure by individual authorities undertaking grant-aided reclamation schemes for each year since 1979 are given in the table attached. Figures are not yet available for 1983–84. Since 1982–83 expenditure has been split between(a) priority schemes by local authorities and private developers leading to immediate disposal of reclaimed land to the private sector for development (category A) and (b) mainly environmental schemes (category B).

Mr. Peter Pike

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list in the Official Report the capital bids submitted by each local authority in England for derelict land reclamation in 1984–85 for category A schemes and capital B schemes; and what are the allocations made for 1984–85 in respect of these bids.

Sir George Young

Information about individual local authority bids for the 1984–85 programme is not immediately available. I shall write to the hon. Member with details as soon as possible.

The overall allocation for derelict land reclamation in 1984–85 is £69 million of which £24 million is for category A schemes, £39 million for category B schemes and £6 million for reclamation on Merseyside.

Allocation of funds to individual local authorities is not yet complete.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, my hon. Friend the Member for Sutton and Cheam (Mr. Macfarlane) gave to my hon. Friend the Member for South Hams (Mr. Steen) on 28 March 1984 at c. 188 which gives a breakdown of the allocations for 1984–85 by region.
