asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many days have been lost through strikes in Scotland over the last five years; and how this compares with the national average.

The average number of working days lost per year through industrial stoppages in Scotland over the period 1978 to 1982 is estimated to have been 1,373,000; the corresponding figure for the United Kingdom is 12,084,000.
