Mr. Corrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing how much money is spent per mile on highway maintenance in each region.

Mr. Younger

The following table gives the information in respect of(a) motorways and trunk roads (the cost of which is met from central Government funds) and (b) local roads (the cost of which is met from local authority funds). The figures relate to the financial year 1982–83, except for Western Isles which are for the year 1981–82.
