HC Deb 10 May 1984 vol 59 c449W
Dame Judith Hart

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local offices of his Department in Hamilton and Motherwell as a result of the advertising campaign in March 1984; how many such payments have resulted from these claims; and how many such payments had been made prior to the advertising campaign as a result of the check of current files and the publicity for dormant cases, respectively.

Dr. Boyson

A check of current files at Hamilton and Motherwell local offices prior to the March 1984 advertising campaign resulted in repayment of supplementary benefit voluntary unemployment deductions to 45 Hamilton local office claimants and 34 in respect of Motherwell local office.

There have been no repayment claims at either of those offices in response to advertising or publicity campaigns.
