HC Deb 10 May 1984 vol 59 c429W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will estimate the number of British citizens who travelled to France on day trips without a passport in each of the past five years.

Mr. Waddington

The Home Office does not have information on which to base reliable estimates of British citizens making trips to France on no-passport excursion cards over the last five years. I understand, however, that the General Council of British Shipping estimates that 1.5 million people took advantage of these cards last year, most using them for trips to France.
