HC Deb 10 May 1984 vol 59 c458W
Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the 1980 and 1984 allocations of finance from the European social fund towards the costs of the training and employment for the under 25s of(a) Germany, (b) France and (c) Great Britain.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Allocations from the European social fund for 1984 have not yet been decided by the European Commission. The figures for aid from the part of the fund specifically reserved for young people — under 25—in 1980 and 1982, the latest year for which comparable figures are available, are as follows. Young people also received assistance under other parts of the fund. The figures are(a) in million European currency units and (b) as a percentage of that part of the fund.

1980 Allocation 1982 Allocation
(a) (b) (a) (b)
million ecu per cent. million ecu per cent.
Germany 29.39 7.5 31.17 5.1
France 84.47 21.5 145.47 23.9
United Kingdom 123.64 31.5 262.34 43.0

In 1983 the United Kingdom was allocated about 416 million ecu for such schemes—about 46–5 per cent. of the total available. Figures for other countries are not yet available.
