HC Deb 09 May 1984 vol 59 c412W
Mr. Body

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will list those cases where grant aid has been refused as a result of objections by the Nature Conservancy Council or a national park authority since 1970.

Mrs. Fenner

Although prior to 1 October 1980 the Nature Conservancy Council was consulted about capital grant cases involving sites of special scientific interest, no record was kept of the outcome of the consultations. Since that date only one case has been referred to Ministers in England because of an objection by the NCC which could not be resolved. In the event, the proposed works were eventually modified in the interests of wildlife conservation and no grant was claimed.

In the same period cases from four claimants were refused to Ministers because of unresolved objections from national park authorities in England. In one of these cases grant was refused on conservation grounds.
