HC Deb 08 May 1984 vol 59 c355W
33. Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has given advice to the Trent regional health authority regarding the provision of maternity services within local community hospitals, as opposed to centralised district general hospitals; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

No specific advice has been given to Trent RHA. Our general view is that women should be encouraged to have their babies in fully equipped maternity units offering the range of supporting services necessary to deal with any complications that may arise.
