asked the Prime Minister how she exercises responsibility for the security services.

The principles governing the relationship between the security services and Ministers are set out in paragraphs 238 to 240 of Lord Denning's report (Cmnd. 2152).

asked the Prime Minister if she will list the responsibilities of each Secretary of State in relation to security matters.

§ The Prime Minister
Every Minister in charge of a Department is responsible for the maintenance of standards of protective security within his Department. The particular responsibilities of the Secretary of State for the Home Department in relation to the Security Service are defined in the directive given to the Director General of the Security Service, which was published in paragraph 238 of Cmnd. 2152.
