HC Deb 08 May 1984 vol 59 c327W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what codes of practice are adopted by his Department regarding regular maintenance cycles for buildings owned or administered by Her Majesty's Government.

Sir George Young

Buildings in the care of the Property Services Agency are normally inspected biennially and all necessary maintenance needs are recorded for execution as soon as possible. Departmental instructions lay down recommended cycles for certain routine tasks, such as internal and external decoration, but it is not always possible to follow these when funds are not available. The mechanical and electrical services in buildings are systematically inspected and maintained under a formal planned maintenance system.
