HC Deb 04 May 1984 vol 59 cc246-7W
Sir Anthony Kershaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has formed of the likely cost of 15 per cent. value added tax on the cost of building extensions and refurbishments of buildings owned by his Department in each of the next five years.

Mr. Brittan

The estimate of the likely costs of 15 per cent. value added tax on the cost of building extensions and refurbishments is as follows:

£000's
Prison Department Establishments Common Police Service Establishments
1984–85 1,876 184
1985–86 2,344 260
1986–87 2,011 366
1987–88 2,520 366

Ownership of common police service establishments is vested in the Department of the Environment, but expenditure on maintenance and extensions is borne on Home Office Votes. Estimates of expenditure in 1988–89 have not yet been prepared.
