HC Deb 03 May 1984 vol 59 c236W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has received details from members of the Baha'i community in Great Britain about further recent executions of Baha'is in Iran; and whether he will make representations to the Government of Iran on this matter.

Mr. Luce

We have recently seen a report from the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of the United Kingdom that six Baha'is have been executed in Iran. The Iranian Government are well aware of our concern about violations of human rights. We co-sponsored the resolution on this question which was adopted by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights on 14 March. We shall continue our efforts, together with our partners in the Ten, to convince the Iranian Government of the need to observe internationally accepted standards.
